Cameron Kawurlkku

Cameron Kawurlkku

Biography

Cameron Kawurlkku is an emerging Kuninjku artist from Maningrida, Northern Territory. He is the son of senior artist Stephen Kawurlkku, a founding Maningrida artist whose work is held in the locally owned Djomi Museum collection.

Inspired by his father’s legacy and the strength of his family’s artistic tradition, Cameron began carving and painting as a way of honouring and continuing this cultural lineage. He learned alongside his sister and brother, developing his skills through close family mentorship and shared practice.

Working across bark painting and sculpture, Cameron has developed a highly defined and recognisable style. His practice is distinguished by whimsical figurative depictions of Djomi and compelling abstract compositions that combine exceptionally fine rarrk with intricate dotting. His work reflects deep cultural grounding alongside a clear commitment to innovation within the sculptural and bark painting traditions of Maningrida.
