Contour: Fibre Forms, FUTUREOBJEKT

Curated by Shonae Hobson, presented by Agency Projects

CONTOUR: FIBRE FORMS draws on a selection of woven artworks from three distinct Aboriginal
communities in Arnhem Land – Maningrida, Millingimbi and Ramingining. Against a backdrop of forest green drapery, the weaving styles from these communities are brought together through the
curatorial premise of a floating forest of weaves. Fish traps by Maureen Ali stand like tree trunks. A circular, radiating mat by Jenny Malibirr functions as a floating canopy. Suspended dilly bags introduce
movement and rhythm to the space. This arrangement encourages audiences to move through the space slowly, encountering each work in relation to the others. In this curated presentation,
weaving becomes a living system of ancestral and cultural knowledge, providing important insights into
the communities and ecologies where these artworks are made.
